We study disgust to help people with anxiety disorders.

Palouse Emotion and Experimental Psychopathology (PEEP) Laboratory

The PEEP lab is located at Whitman College, in the Palouse region of Eastern Washington. We conduct research at the intersection of affective and clinical science. Here are some of the questions that inspire our work:

  • What makes something disgusting?
  • How do we learn new disgusts?
  • Can we overcome disgust? If so, how?
  • Can we measure disgust with an eye tracker?

In pursuing these questions, we are learning why disgust is so difficult to treat in anxiety disorders. We are also identifying novel strategies for reducing disgust. And we have established eye tracking as a promising measure of disgust.
